Day 18: John 15 - Abide in Me

Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.
— John 15:4, ESV

Today’s Reading Passage: John 15

Are you ever exhausted? We all definitely can be! Our life is full of action. We hustle all day long, and then some.

We get work done.

Errands run.

Fit time in for fun.

At the end of the day, we’re tired. We may not have a lot more to give.

We try our best to be the best… mom, wife, daughter, sister, friend, aunt, co-worker, and the list goes on. But sometimes we can barely make it out of bed. Sometimes the weight of this world can be so heavy it’s hard to want to get up and do it again, and again. Have you been there?

Yet that’s where Jesus stepped in and said the sweet words, “Abide in me and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me” (vs. 4, ESV).

Sweet, glorious music to our ears! We can stop the hustle, and instead, start resting in Him.

He later adds, “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace. In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world” (vs. 33, NIV).

Jesus encourages His disciples that through His love for us, we can then love others. Like a cup being filled up with too much liquid that it overflows… so can our life be, when we are filled with the love of God. Our lives can’t help but overflow His love onto others.

But it starts with abiding in Him first.

How can you rest in Christ today? In the midst of your daily hustle, what does abiding in Christ look like for you?
