Day 8: John 6:25-71 - I Tell You The Truth

Jesus answered and said to them, ‘This is the work of God, that you believe in Him whom He has sent.’
— John 6:29, NASB

Today’s Reading Passage: John 6:25-71

When your closest friend has something VERY important to share with you, how do they start the conversation? What is their starter phrase?

“Sit down, I have something to tell you.”

“This is important, so listen carefully.”

“You are NOT going to believe this!”

For Jesus, His phrase was “I tell you the truth” (NLT), and truly did He have something important to share with the crowd He was in front of in Capernaum since He repeated this line multiple times. The truth He shared would blow their minds!

Have you ever been there with a friend? Needing to share some hard truth, but knowing that it wasn’t going to be well-received?

Well not everyone received the message Jesus shared, but He did it anyway.

His message was simple:

Physical food is short-lived, but spiritual food is everlasting… and Jesus is that spiritual food!

To be spiritually minded and do the work of God, it’s not through actions here on earth, but through our belief!

Wow! Here this crowd would have grown up being taught something completely different! Jesus contradicted what the crowd would have been thinking. He was teaching that there is only one thing God requires: for us to trust in Him.

There’s nothing we can do to earn favor or an audience with God. God wants us to realize we can’t save ourselves on our own. We need to trust and receive His gift.

Like the people of Jesus’ day, do you struggle believing all Jesus requires is belief? How can you place your trust in God today?
