Day 28: John 20:19-31 - Believe

But these are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name
— John 20:31, CSB

Today’s Reading Passage: John 20:19-31

After Jesus resurrected from the dead, He started making appearances to the disciples to let them know.

Like a 20-year class reunion, these friends saw Jesus in disbelief. Can you imagine their faces of shock!?!

Maybe Jesus was unrecognizable to them… or maybe they were too perplexed to think He could be alive! But they saw the marks from the nails in His hands, and the spear in His side and they believed.

What about us? How would we react if we saw Jesus?

Oh, how we can long for the chance to see Jesus in the flesh. To meet Him face to face. To see Him for ourselves.

While we yearn for the day where we can meet Jesus face to face, we have the gift of the Bible that captures all of Jesus’ story, so we too can believe.

“These are written so that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name” (John 20:31, NIV).

Let that sink in. Reread that verse again.

“So you may have LIFE in his name…” Wow.

We have been given life, because of what Jesus has done for us. What do we have to do? Believe (Romans 10:9, Acts 16:31, Ephesians 2:8-9).

This is powerful. Life-changing. And it comes from the idea that we believe in Him.

Do you believe in Jesus Christ, the Son of God? If so, how does that change the way you live your life in Him?

We pray that as you experience the life-giving knowledge of Jesus as your Lord and Savior, that you will experience a new relationship with Him. A new relationship that gives you life in His name.
